John Webb, Head boy 2009, completed a B.Com Accounting degree at UJ, and was the top student in Financial Management in 2011. He is currently studying towards his B.Com. Honors degree in Financial Management. John led a University of Johannesburg Honours team to first place in the 2013 South African finals of the CIMA "Global Business Challenge." John and team will represent South Africa in the August World Challenge.
After matriculating, Garth studied a Bachelors Degree in Emergency Medical Care (BTech EMC) at UJ. This is a four year, compulsory honours, degree that qualifies one as a paramedic (the highest paramedic qualification currently available in South Africa). He graduated at the end of 2012 and has since been employed by ER24, working at their Johannesburg South branch.
Jenni (Principal The King's School): What have you done since school and what are you doing now?
Lucy: My first year out of matric I did a year of discipleship training at the Church and then in 2005 I went to Wits school of Education and studied a Bachelor of Education which I completed last year. I am now a Grade 4 teacher at the school.
Dan: I also did a year of discipleship training at the church, and in 2005 I studied a BSc in Maths and Psychology and carried on with my honours in Maths, and this year I'm starting at Rand Merchant Bank.
James Porter, our Head Boy of 2001, recently qualified as a Family Medicine Specialist, FCFP (SA). FCFP stands for Fellowship of the College of Family Physicians. He studied for four years (after qualifying as a doctor as UCT), and during that time, he and his wife Mireille, had two boys, Joel and they adopted Joshua.
James was also working full time as a doctor in the Government Health System in Cape Town while he specialised. We would like to congratulate and honour James for "making a difference".
Congratulations to Gabrielle de Freitas (nee van Niekerk), one of our high school teachers, who was the top B.Ed Honours (Mathematics Education) student in 2012 at The University of Johannesburg. In 2010 Gabrielle was the top B.Ed student, also at The University of Johannesburg.
Well done Gabi! We are proud of you and honoured to have you on staff here at The King’s School.
